Tasks panelists to uphold standards and values of the examination
The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, on Monday, 30th September, 2024, inaugurated the Examination Panel for 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE) at the Owena Cantonment officers' Mess, Headquarters of 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State. In his remarks, he congratulated the Members of the Examination Panel for the unique opportunity to serve and challenged the not to compromise the correct standards and values of the examination. He further stated that their nomination to participate in the exercise was based on their honesty, high level of integrity and professional competence.
The Commander TRADOC, who is also the Examination President, also said that the purpose of the conversation was to set the tone for their involvement in producing thought-provoking questions for the candidates' assessment as they fortify the foundation of their career progression.
Maj Gen Aligbe therefore charged the 24- member panel to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of their responsibilities. He also stressed that the setting of the examination must be realistic and innovative in line with the current security challenges the Nigerian Army is contending with in the country. He also added that the examination should help the NA to produce problem-solving officers in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy. The Commander reminded the panellists that they have come to assess the officers who are to work with them in meeting the objectives of national defence and security imperatives.
Earlier in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Obinna Onubogu, whose formation is hosting the exercise, represented by Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General John Lar, welcomed the Commander TRADOC NA and his team to Akure for the conduct of CMPPE 2024 and congratulated the panelists for their well-deserved nomination.
Maj Gen Onubogu further stated that it was an honour for the 2 Division Nigerian Army to be considered for the hosting 2024 CMPPE and also for 32 Artillery Brigade to be the host formation. He also said that such examination is a critical step in the career progression of NA officers of the rank of Captain, urging them to display utmost honesty, commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their duty.
The GOC further described the examination as a catalyst for career progression of the candidates adding that it will equip the candidates with requisite knowledge that will help them in playing active roles in support of the NA in meeting the objectives of the nation's defence and security.
He assured the Examination President and his team of the readiness of 2 Division NA in ensuring a hitch free examination and drew the attention of the panellists on the need for them to be individually and collectively security conscious.
The ceremony had in attendance the representatives of the Director General Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC ), Chief of Training (Army), Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation and Acting Director Examination TRADOC NA as well as observers amongst others.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, the panelists had undergone a special training session to refresh their memories which was co-ordinated by the Acting Director Examination TRADOC NA, Brig Gen Godwin Nwamba.
The TRADOC NA was established in 1981 during the tenure of Lt Gen MI Wushishi as COAS. It was established as the ‘Think Tank’ and Centre of Excellence of the NA.
