The Deputy National Coordinator, National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapon, Maj Gen EC Ekwesi, accompanied by Zonal Coordinator, North Central, Maj Gen HI Bature (Rtd) and other members paid a courtesy visit to Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA).
Gen Ekwesi explained thatthe proliferation and stockpiling of illicit weapons continue to threaten both national and international peace and security thereby, exacerbating the plight of civilians in strife-torn countries worldwide. He spoke on the mandates of removing all arms in the security agencies' inventories that are unserviceable, as well as creating a database of all the arms in the custody of security agencies In his remarks, the Commander TRADOC NA Maj Gen SO Olabanji was emphatic on the need to stop the production and proliferation of locally made small arms which pose serious national security threats. He opined that technical expert can regulate and leverage on the local skills to build on the existing technology for production of small arms. MajGen Olabanji assured the delegation of the continues support of the Command in realizing their mandates. He urged them to take this national assignment as a critical service to the nation.
